MAYFLOWER, Ark. (AP) — The Mayflower School District is canceling classes Monday because of an increasing number of ill students.

Superintendent John Gray says several students are suffering from flu-like symptoms and that strep throat and mononucleosis have also been reported. Gray tells the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (http://is.gd/y2YlVu ) that the district's facilities are being disinfected.

Gray says most of the illnesses are at the elementary school, but it's beginning to spread to the middle and high schools as well.

Gray says the schools will be closed Monday in an effort "to break the cycle of illness." Classes are to resume Tuesday.
