PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Members of the Providence Fire Department will wear special T-shirts to show support for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and to raise money to fight the disease.
Officials say firefighters will sell the shirts to raise funds for the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
Mayor Angel Taveras (tuh-VEHR'-us) and Paul Doughty (DOW'-tee), president of the local union representing firefighters, will be joined by members of the department at a news conference at the Providence Public Safety Complex on Wednesday afternoon to highlight the effort.
Breast cancer is the second most common cancer among U.S. women, after skin cancer.
