WENATCHEE, Wash. (AP) — A pain medication linked to a fungal meningitis outbreak was not shipped to Washington. But, Secretary of Health Mary Selecky says the Massachusetts company that manufactured the drug is licensed for services in Washington and has shipped other products to the state.
Selecky told KPQ (http://is.gd/Kdltk2 ) an investigation has been launched to find out if any of those products have been used. The eight locations where the products were shipped have been told not to use them until the Food and Drug Administration completes its investigation.
The FDA is investigating two more drugs from the New England Compounding Center of Framingham, Mass. Its steroid shots for back pain are blamed for fungal meningitis that sickened 214 people in 15 states. Fifteen people have died.
