Suspicious fires has northern Ohio town on edge

MANSFIELD, Ohio (AP) — The state fire marshal's office is helping authorities in a northern Ohio town try to stem a string of more than three dozen suspicious fires since summer.

The Mansfield News Journal (http://ohne.ws/SZ0Eq4 ) reports that the city has on average seen a suspicious fire at a vacant house about every three days since June 13. Fires on Sunday and Monday pushed the total to 38.

City fire Chief John Harsch said that "it's gotten crazy." He said there are few clues. A police crime analyst is mapping the locations of the fires to see trends develop.

The chief hopes a $5,000 reward being offered by the Ohio Blue Ribbon Arson Committee makes a difference.
