BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — The Advocate reports (http://bit.ly/WkGA7a) that a letter written by the Louisiana State University system's outside attorneys contradicts Jindal administration statements that it had nothing to do with LSU's response to public records requests.
The newspaper says the letter shows that Gov. Bobby Jindal's top lawyer suggested that LSU use the "deliberative process privilege" to withhold some documents related to budget cuts and privatization at public hospitals.
The newspaper says the letter from W. Shelby McKenzie to LSU system President William Jenkins states that Executive Counsel Liz Murrill had reviewed records requested by reporters and suggested LSU use that reason for keeping some private.
Jindal spokesman Kyle Plotkin said last week that the governor's office has not advised LSU or other agencies to invoke "deliberative process" to keep documents hidden.
