VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) — Health officials say the number of confirmed and probable salmonella cases linked to a Vancouver, Wash., restaurant is more than 70.
Clark County Health Officer Dr. Alan Melnick said Friday that 21 cases have been confirmed and another 55 are considered probable.
The Columbian reports (http://is.gd/VTqQgj ) that most cases involve adult customers who visited the On the Border restaurant between Sept. 20 and Oct. 8. He says five restaurant food handlers and at least one child also tested positive for salmonella.
Health officials closed the restaurant Tuesday. They're still trying to determine the source of the bacteria. Symptoms include fever, chills, diarrhea and abdominal discomfort and typically arrive within three days of exposure.
Officials say the restaurant won't reopen until they're confident there's no risk to the public.
