MIAMI (AP) — Authorities say a U.S. Secret Service officer was arrested near a popular Miami nightlife area.

Miami police report that a police officer spotted Aaron Francis Engler around 7 a.m. Friday, lying near an intersection close to Mary Brickell Village in downtown Miami. The city police officer reported Engler had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol.

The police officer reported that Engler, who had difficulty standing, became aggressive and started throwing his arms around during a pat down. Engler reportedly hit the police officer in the chin while resisting, and was arrested.

Miami police say Engler was later released to members of the Secret Service's Miami field office.

The Secret Service reports that the case will be turned over to their Office of Professional Responsibility.
