NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee health officials say the number of people who may be at risk in an outbreak of deadly fungal meningitis is larger than they previously thought and now stands at about 1,200.
Dr. John Dreyzehner (DREYEZ'-ner) said Friday the Department of Health has learned about an additional shipment in early June of epidural steroids made by the New England Compounding Center to Tennessee.
He said that they do not yet know the lot number, but they believe that shipment is different from the three lots recalled by a Massachusetts specialty pharmacy because of the outbreak that has sickened 184 people in 12 states and led to 14 deaths.
The number of cases in Tennessee increased by one to 50 cases with six deaths.
