COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Democratic state senators in Ohio are urging the U.S. Supreme Court to deny a request by the state's election chief in a dispute over early voting in the presidential battleground.
The senators filed a supporting brief with the court on Friday, contending unequal access to the polls during the early voting period threatens Ohio's elections.
Secretary of State Jon Husted (HYOO'-sted) has appealed a lower court ruling that reinstates early voting on the three days before Election Day and returns discretion to local boards of elections. The Republican also has asked the Supreme Court to delay the lower court's decision while it decides whether to take the case.
President Barack Obama's campaign, which sued Husted, was expected to file its response with the Supreme Court Friday evening.
