NEW YORK (AP) — A man who claimed he crisscrossed the globe rescuing Torahs as a "Jewish Indiana Jones" has been sentenced in New York to more than four years in prison.
Menachem Youlus (muh-NAH'-kuhm YOO'-luhs) received the 51-month prison term Thursday in federal court in Manhattan.
Prosecutors had accused the owner of a Wheaton, Md., bookstore of pocketing hundreds of thousands of dollars through the "Save a Torah" charity he co-founded as a nonprofit organization.
Authorities said he spent some of it on private school tuition for his children and personal expenses including meals and health care.
