NEW YORK (AP) — Authorities in New York City have arrested several people on charges they illegally sold prescription medications for recreational use over the Internet.

The arrests were announced Thursday by the special narcotics prosecutor for New York City, Bridget Brennan.

The arrests stemmed from a 10-month investigation involving undercover officers responding to ads placed on Craigslist.

The ads offered prescription painkillers and other drugs for $20 per pill or more. The sellers would arrange to meet the undercover officers in public places like Penn Station and Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village.

Among those arrested were an NYU graduate student, a financial adviser and a 62-year-old freelance photographer.
