BOSTON (AP) — The Massachusetts Attorney General is now involved in the ongoing probe of the national meningitis outbreak linked to a specialty pharmacy in Framingham.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Attorney General Martha Coakley's office said it was "actively engaged" with federal and state authorities investigating the distribution of a contaminated steroid.
The statement said any potential legal action by the AG's office would come after it was determined what led to the distribution of the unsafe drugs.
Gov. Deval Patrick told reporters on Wednesday that New England Compounding Center may have misled regulators and done work beyond the scope of its state license.
Federal officials say 170 people in 11 states have been sickened in the outbreak. Fourteen have died.
