WASHINGTON (AP) — The wife of Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney says her love of horses helped her overcome her fear that multiple sclerosis would put her in a wheelchair.
Ann Romney spoke about her depression after receiving the diagnosis 14 years ago. She did so Wednesday while guest-hosting ABC's "Good Morning America."
Mrs. Romney says she was extremely weak and worried about her future, but that her life improved dramatically when she turned to horses.
She said horses gave her the energy and passion she needed to get out of bed at times when she didn't think she'd ever want to get out of bed.
Mrs. Romney is part-owner of a horse that competed this summer in the Olympic sport of dressage, the equine equivalent of ballet.
