AKRON, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio man has been sentenced to 19-years-to-life in prison for the slaying of an 18-year-old woman in 1999.
Denny Ross was sentenced in Akron on Tuesday. Victim Hannah Hill's family members say they hope it puts an end to a case that has dragged through the system for more than two decades.
The 32-year-old Ross was convicted by a jury Friday of killing Hill, whose body was found in May 1999. She'd been beaten, strangled and raped and her body stuffed inside the trunk of her own car. Prosecutors say Ross's DNA was on her body, and her belongings were found outside his apartment.
The judge ordered Ross to serve the sentence consecutively with a 25-year sentence for the rape and assault of another woman in 2004.
