RENO, Nev. (AP) — Reno Mayor Bob Cashell is recuperating after undergoing scheduled heart surgery on Tuesday.

A family spokesman says the 74-year old Cashell is resting comfortably at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center after surgery to replace a heart valve.

He is expected to remain hospitalized for several days, and then will recuperate at home.

Cashell is a former Nevada lieutenant governor and university regent.

He was elected mayor in 2002 and re-elected in 2006 and 2010.

His current term expires in 2014.
