MOBILE, Ala. (AP) — An Alabama town is remembering a college freshman killed by a campus police officer as his family seeks answers about his shooting death.

A vigil set was set for Tuesday evening for 18-year-old Gil Collar at Wetumpka High School. He graduated there earlier this year before enrolling at the University of South Alabama in Mobile.

University officials say Collar was nude and threatening an officer on campus when he was shot to death early Saturday. A school statement doesn't say whether Collar was armed.

An attorney for Collar's family, Jere Beasley, says campus police assured relatives in August the university is a "safe haven" for all students

Beasley is asking the university to cooperate with the family.
