Fired Ohio Dems ask judge to reinstate them

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — Two Democratic elections officials who claim they were unjustly fired by Ohio's top elections official say their removal was arbitrary, unjustified and violated their Constitutional rights.

Ex-Montgomery County elections board members Dennis Lieberman and Thomas Ritchie Sr. say Secretary of State Jon Husted (HYOO'-sted) wrongfully terminated them after they voted to allow early voting on weekends.

Husted, a Republican, fired them in late August, saying they violated his order setting uniform early voting hours in the state.

Lieberman and Ritchie filed their argument with a federal judge in Dayton Tuesday, adding that the firing has damaged their professional reputations.

Husted said in his own filing Tuesday that the two broke Ohio law and are wrongly claiming the voting hours rule was ambiguous.

Federal judge Walter Rice will rule Oct. 23.
