ASHTABULA, Ohio (AP) — Authorities say a man is charged with murder in the slayings of a woman and her daughter in northeast Ohio.
Court officials say 32-year-old Gilberto Torres was arraigned on two charges of murder Tuesday in Ashtabula (ash-tuh-BYOO'-luh) Municipal Court. A message was left for his attorney.
Police say relatives found the women's bodies at their home Monday.
Chief Investigator Richard Mongell (mon-JEL') of the Ashtabula County coroner's office says 40-year-old Amparo Torres died of a gunshot wound to the head and 20-year-old Hilda Dolores Garcia Rodriguez died of asphyxia from smothering.
Police Chief Robert Stell says Torres was found unresponsive at the home and taken to a hospital and then jail.
The relationship between Torres and the women wasn't clear Tuesday.
Ashtabula is about 15 miles from the Pennsylvania border.
