COVINGTON, Ky. (AP) — A former cheerleader for the Cincinnati Bengals will avoid jail time by pleading guilty to having sex with a high school student.

Sarah Jones admitted in court Monday to having sex with a 17-year-old at the northern Kentucky school where she was a teacher. She pleaded guilty to sexual misconduct and custodial interference.

The 27-year-old Jones had taught at Dixie Heights High School before resigning last November. She was indicted in March. A trial in the case had been set to start Wednesday.

Her mother, former school principal Cheryl Armstrong Jones, also pleaded guilty Monday, to a misdemeanor charge of tampering with evidence. She admitted to the judge that she sent the teen a text message telling him to get rid of his phone.
