COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — One of the ballot issues before Ohio voters next month is a proposal to change the process for redrawing the state's political districts.
Issue 2 proposes a 12-member commission of state residents to re-draw Ohio's legislative and congressional maps every 10 years.
Most agree Ohio's current redistricting system needs repair, but there's debate over whether Issue 2 offers the right fix.
Proponents say the amendment would remove self-interested politicians from the process. Opponents say appointed commissioners would be unaccountable to voters.
Another issue on the ballot asks if residents want to call a constitutional convention. The question listed as Issue 1 comes up every 20 years by law, and has been defeated the last four times.
Ohio's last constitutional convention was in 1912.
