NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — The last of six defendants in Newark's notorious schoolyard triple murder case is scheduled to go on trial this week.

That means a final time for the families of the victims to see and hear evidence of the cold-blooded killings.

Dashon Harvey, Terrance "T.J." Aeriel and Iofemi (eye-OH'-feh-mee) Hightower were high school friends from Newark who were enrolled or planning to enroll at Delaware State University.

They were shot and killed behind the Mount Vernon School in August 2007. Three defendants have been convicted and two others have pleaded guilty. Gerardo Gomez's trial is scheduled to begin Thursday.

Hightower's mother says she and other family members of the victims have made it their mission to attend every court hearing and trial, no matter how painful.
