ATHENS, Ohio (AP) — A southeastern Ohio woman could face life in prison after pleading guilty to killing her 4-year-old stepdaughter.

Investigators in Athens County said 26-year-old Ashley Young choked the girl and slammed her head into the floor of their home in May 2011. A prosecutor said Young also tried to buy illegal drugs on her way to the hospital after Kalyen Young had been transported for treatment.

The Athens Messenger (http://bit.ly/VqHjTX ) reports that prosecutors agreed to recommend a sentence of life in prison without possibility of parole for 20 years in exchange for Young's guilty plea to charges including aggravated murder.

Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn said the plea resolves the matter without the family having to go through a trial.

Young will be sentenced next month.
