LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — A southern Michigan farmer who also leads the local branch of the Republican Party is taking the presidential race to one of his corn fields.

MLive.com reports (http://bit.ly/QV116a ) Hank Choate had an Idaho crop artist carve portraits of GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney and his running mate Paul Ryan into a corn field. He says Shawn Stolworthy used a rototiller and a global positioning system to sculpt the portraits, which are visible from the air.

The portraits along are on 10 acres of land in Jackson County's Liberty Township, about 65 miles southwest of Detroit. Choate says they were carved on Friday.

Choate also is co-chairman of the county's Romney-Ryan campaign. Stolworthy is a designer and creator of corn mazes.
