HOUSTON (AP) — Police say a man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend in Houston and dumping her body hundreds of miles away in a West Texas oil field taped an interview about the case for the "Dr. Phil" show two days before confessing to investigators.

Mark Augustin Castellano has been charged with murder in last month's slaying of 31-year-old Michelle Warner.

Houston police Det. Fil Waters said Monday that Castellano told investigators Sunday that he drove the couple's 3-year-old son to his parents' home in Odessa before returning to Houston to get Warner's body. Waters says Castellano left the body in a plastic container in the backseat of a car parked outside his parents' home for 1 ½ days before dumping it in a ditch in Midland.

Castellano doesn't have an attorney yet.
