LORAIN, Ohio (AP) — Property owners along Ohio's Lake Erie shore are upset state officials are appealing a ruling about ownership of the shoreline.
Attorney General Mike DeWine is appealing a ruling that gave the residents ownership rights and vacated submerged land leases for which the owners pay the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
A leader of the group tells The Morning Journal of Lorain (bit.ly/UvRaEB) that the Lake County ruling ordered the state to refund submerged land lease fees for property covered in the suit since 1998.
The Ohio Supreme Court in 2011 ruled that property owners' rights extend to the point where the shore and water typically meet.
A spokesman for the attorney general's office declined to comment about the appeal of the ruling.
