PINEVILLE, La. (AP) — The growing nursing field has sparked new programs at schools in central Louisiana.
Kimberly Sharp, dean of the Division of Nursing at Louisiana College's School of Nursing and Allied Health, tells The Town Talk (http://townta.lk/TAwKzB ) that professionals are desperately needed in the field.
Programs gaining popularity include an accelerated bachelor of science in nursing and an "RN to BSN" program that bridges the gap for registered nurses who have an associate degree but want to earn a bachelor's degree.
Louisiana College offers a traditional four-year bachelor of science in nursing degree and a 16-month accelerated BSN program. Students come to the program with a degree, generally in science, wanting to transition into a second career, Sharp said.
