WASHINGTON (AP) — The Department of Defense says the remains of an Ohio serviceman who served in the Korean War will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery.

The department's Missing Personnel Office said Friday that the remains of Marine Private First Class Richard Gzik (gih-ZHIHK') of Toledo, once reported as missing in action, have been identified and returned to his family.

The department says Gzik was killed in action on Dec. 2, 1950 when his regiment came under attack on the west side of the Chosin Reservoir in North Korea.

The government says that although Gzik's remains were turned over in a 1954 operation, it wasn't until earlier this year that modern technology allowed an identification.

His burial was scheduled for Friday.

The Defense Department says 7,947 Americans remain unaccounted for from the Korean War.
