COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Authorities say a 26-year-old man accused of trying to hire a hit man to kill his wife is on life-support after hanging himself in a central Ohio jail last week.

The Columbus Dispatch (http://bit.ly/UZf4vm ) reports Thursday that prosecutors have dropped charges against Angel Benitez because he is "brain dead" following the suicide attempt Sept. 17.

Benitez was found in the cell that morning with a bedsheet around his neck.

Police say Benitez met with an undercover Columbus police officer May? 13 and planned a "murder for hire" of his wife. He was arrested and accused of conspiracy to commit aggravated murder.
