MAMARONECK, N.Y. (AP) — An elderly Westchester County man is in critical condition after contracting the West Nile virus.

Mamaroneck Mayor Norma Rosenblum alerted residents in an email Wednesday that health officials are trying to determine if the man contracted the mosquito-borne disease in Westchester.

News12 Westchester reports that health officials are expected to visit his home on Thursday.

The Centers for Disease Control says this has been one of the worst years on record for the virus.
