LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles prosecutors say two people charged with trying to extort millions of dollars from Stevie Wonder have pleaded no contest.
The district attorney's office says Alpha Lorenzo Walker and Tamara Diaz were sentenced Monday to serve 292 days in jail, which amounted to time-served and both were released within hours.
Walker is Wonder's cousin and was arrested in May after trying to market a video he had made making salacious allegations against the singer. Wonder's attorney and police arranged a sting after Walker allegedly sought up to $5 million for the video.
Walker's attorney Ian Wallach said the plea deal was reached after prosecutors encountered difficulty with the case.
Both will remain on probation for three years, but their charges can be reduced to misdemeanors.
