Bradley County offers prescription drug disposal

Monday September 24, 2012 4:15 AM

CLEVELAND, Tenn. (AP) — Bradley County authorities are offering a way to properly dispose of unused prescription medicine.

All this week, from Monday through Saturday, local residents can bring expired or unneeded prescriptions to the Bradley County Sheriff's Office, which will accept them for disposal, no questions asked. The hours of collection are 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday.

Officials say flushing or landfilling old medicines can get them into the water supply. Keeping them could lead to them being taken mistakenly or tempting someone to abuse them.

During three previous collection events, Bradley County residents brought in a total of 375 pounds of unused or expired medications.
