COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A new poll shows Democrat Sherrod Brown has a slight lead in his bid for re-election to the U.S. Senate.

The Ohio Newspaper Organization poll finds Brown with a 52 percent to 45 percent lead over Republican state Treasurer Josh Mandel in a closely watched race nationally.

The poll released Monday shows that Brown is doing well among women and independents likely to vote.

The two candidates are running evenly among male voters.

The Ohio Newspaper Organization's phone poll was conducted Sept. 13-18. The poll among 861 likely Ohio voters has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
