MIAMI (AP) — A former ruby player who is now paralyzed will present a donation to a rehabilitation hospital in Miami.
James "Woody" Beckham was tackled during a college rugby game two years ago and left paralyzed. The 23-year-old will present on Monday a $20,500 check to Jackson Rehabilitation Hospital where he underwent intense therapy.
The Woody Foundation, named after Beckham, is a non-profit charitable organization that raises money to aid in the recovery of spinal cord injury patients. A fishing tournament in July helped raise the money for the foundation.
He says he hopes the money will allow other spinal cord injury patients to continue enjoying activities in the water through Jackson's aquatic recreation therapy program.
