OHIO WOMEN PRISONERS WEAVE MAT FOR HOMELESS - Inmates at Ohio's prison for women are making mats for homeless people using an all-too-familiar artifact of the modern world: plastic grocery bags. The women crochet the six-foot by four-foot sleeping mats, which are made of 600 to 900 bags.

UNITED NATIONS GENERAL ASSEMBLY - In the General Assembly Hall today, there is an all-day high-level meeting on the 'Rule of Law,' with more than 100 speakers. The UN-Arab League special envoy to Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi, will brief the Council on his recent trip to the region.
OBAMA-BIDEN CAMPAGIN - President Obama arrives in New York for the United Nations General Assembly, where he will speak during the first day of general debate tomorrow.
ROMNEY-RYAN CAMPAIGN - Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney and his running mate Paul Ryan are set to launch a three-day 'Romney Plan For A Stronger Middle Class' bus tour across Ohio.

LIBYA'S PRESIDENT ORDERS MILITIAS DISBANDED - Libya's President ordered all militias and armed groups to either submit themselves to government authority or disband. The order follows the fatal attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi.
PROTESTS OVER ANTI-ISLAM FILM CONTINUE TO SPREAD - Protests against a film which denigrates the Prophet Mohammad continues with protesters in Iran, Lebanon and Greece calling for the film-makers to face punishment.
MORE THAN 30 COUNTRIES CONDUCT MAJOR NAVAL EXERCISE IN MIDDLE EAST - The United States and more than 30 other countries are conducting the largest joint naval exercise in the Middle East focused on countering the threat of anti-ship mines.
CHINA-JAPAN ISLAND DISPUTE - Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary, Osamu Fujimura, said in a news conference that it was regrettable that China has cancelled events to commemorate 40 years of diplomatic relations with Japan.
FORMER CHINESE POLICE CHIEF SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS FOR MULTIPLE CRIMES - Former Chinese police chief, Wang Lijun, whose thwarted defection exposed murder and infighting in high places was sentenced to 15 years in prison, setting the stage for China's leadership to close out the divisive scandal and move ahead with a generational handover of power.

CAMBODIAN GOAT ANTELOPE UNDER THREAT - Cambodia's southern serow population is being decimated by habitat loss and over-hunting. The southern serow is a species of goat-antelope native to mountain forests in parts of Southeast Asia.
UK STUDY SAYS MIDDLE-AGED MEN MORE LIKELY TO COMMIT SUICIDE - Middle-aged men from poor backgrounds are ten times more likely to commit suicide according to a new study by UK emotional health voluntary NGO 'The Samaritans.' UK statistics show that 3,000 men in the 30s, 40s and 50s commit suicide each year, with men from deprived areas 10 times more likely to take their own lives than those from better-off backgrounds.
FURNITURE THAT MAKES YOU FEEL BETTER - For centuries, India's Ayurvedic herbalists have claimed the juices and bark of certain trees contain powerful healing properties. Now carpenters in the southern state of Kerala say furniture made from these trees can also help to heal people. Medical experts say it has yet to be proven by proper clinical trials.
