NEW YORK (AP) — A New York City auction house is selling the contents of philanthropist Brooke Astor's two homes.
Sotheby's is offering the 901 objects from her Park Avenue duplex and suburban Westchester County estate on Monday and Tuesday.
They include European and Asian furnishings, paintings, jewelry, a porcelain menagerie and more than 100 dog paintings. The collection is expected to fetch $6 million to $9 million.
Proceeds will go to the institutions and causes Astor supported throughout her life, including the New York Public Library, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Bronx Zoo.
The auction comes after a five-year dispute involving her son. He was convicted of taking advantage of her dementia, partly by engineering changes to her will. He has appealed.
Astor died in 2007 at age 105.
