PARKSTON, S.D. (AP) — A first-grade class in Parkston has raised $6,570 at a lemonade stand to help a classmate who got a liver transplant last week.
KELO-TV reports (http://bit.ly/QNEuZh ) that the going rate for a cup of lemonade was around $20 on Saturday as the students traded donations for drinks to benefit their classmate, Landon Bueber.
The seven-year-old boy's liver started failing around Labor Day, and he is scheduled to remain in a hospital for a couple of weeks. His parents will likely spend several weeks with their son at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota.
The first-grade class has done more than operate the lemonade stand to make money. Last week, the 16 students donated more than $100.
The boy's aunt, Mary Hohn, says some kids emptied their piggybanks to give money.
