PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Organizers of Rhode Island's AIDS Walk for Life say the 27th annual event will highlight the need for testing as a means of prevention.
Organizers expect more than 500 walkers to participate Sunday. Proceeds will benefit AIDS Project Rhode Island, which provides a range of services for those living with HIV and AIDS.
The wife of Gov. Lincoln Chafee (CHAY'-fee), first lady Stephanie Chafee, is the honorary chair of the event. She is one of the first nurses in the state to work exclusively with AIDS patients.
The 2.5-mile walk begins and ends at the Statehouse. This year's theme is "Grow Up Healthy and AIDS-Free! Get Tested for HIV!"
Free rapid HIV testing and flu shots will be available.
