Saturday September 22, 2012 9:45 AM

WILTON MANORS, Fla. (AP) — The Broward Sheriff's Office is holding a shred-a-thon and prescription drug take back event.

The shred-a-thon allows residents to safely get rid of their personal documents, including receipts and check stubs. The service is free of charge, but there is a limit of five boxes per person.

The prescription drug take back program operates under the name Operation Medicine Cabinet. Residents can turn in unused or expired prescription medication and receive a $5 gift card.

The event is scheduled for Saturday morning in Wilton Manors.

The Shred-A-Thon events began in Broward County in 2008.
