LOS ANGELES (AP) — Gov. Jerry Brown is expected to sign several bills related to women's health at a Los Angeles Planned Parenthood clinic.
His office declined to say which ones Brown might sign during Saturday's event, but the Democratic governor has several to choose from.
On his desk is a controversial bill by Democratic Assemblywoman Holly Mitchell of Los Angeles that would allow nurses to dispense birth control, making it easier for women to get contraceptives.
Another bill, by Democratic state Sen. Joe Simitian of Palo Alto, would require mammogram providers to notify patients if they have dense breast tissue that can make it harder to detect cancer. Brown vetoed a similar bill last year.
Brown also is considering legislation extending a program that lets nurse practitioners and physician assistants perform first-trimester abortions.
