MACON, Ga. (AP) — Two more cases of an often-deadly virus that attacks dogs have been reported at a central Georgia animal shelter, which had to shut down for a time in August after an earlier outbreak of the same virus.
Bibb County spokesman Kevin Barrere says two cases of parvo were reported Thursday.
The Telegraph of Macon reports (http://bit.ly/OJos6m) that officials were awaiting an inspection from the state Department of Agriculture before deciding a course of action, but the areas housing the infected animals will be closed and cleaned in the meantime.
Officials did not say if the infected dogs would be treated or euthanized.
In the August outbreak, veterinarians found that two animals picked up from shelter had parvo. One of those dogs was treated, while the other was euthanized.
