DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) — The federal government says a Detroit-area doctor has been arrested on accusations he ran a $40 million scheme to submit false claims to Medicare for home health services.
The Justice Department says 45-year-old Hicham Elhorr (hee-SHAHM' el-HOHR') was arrested on a fraud indictment unsealed Thursday in Detroit U.S. District Court.
The Associated Press left a phone message seeking comment from the Dearborn doctor.
The government says Elhorr owned and operated a business called House Calls Physicians. It describes him as the mastermind of a scheme to bill Medicare for physician home visits and home health services that either were fake or were delivered by unlicensed providers.
The Justice Department says agents also executed search warrants at three locations and seized three bank accounts.
