OUTLOOK FOR CHINA'S SOLAR INDUSTRY CLOUDY - Rivals are accusing China, the world's largest producer of solar panels, of selling products at a loss to put competitors out of business. The EU is investigating following a complaint by a group of 25 producers of solar gear. The investigation is expected to last 15 months, but if there is strong early evidence of dumping it is possible to impose temporary duties within nine months.

CHINA VP GREETS ASIAN NEIGHBORS - China's Vice President Xi Jinping greeted Asian neighbors on Thursday, on the sidelines of the 9th China-ASEAN Expo that is due to open on Friday in the southern Chinese city of Nanning.
CUBA CONDEMNS 50-YEAR-OLD U.S. EMBARGO - Cuba condemned the 50-year-old U.S. economic embargo on the island in an annual report and called for the sanctions to be lifted.
LOUVRE OPENS NEW WING DEDICATED TO ISLAMIC ART - France's Louvre Museum is unveiling a new wing and galleries dedicated to the arts of Islam, the culmination of a nearly $130 million, decade-long project that is coming to fruition amid heightened tensions between the Muslim world and the West.
FIRE DESTROYS BANGLADESH SHANTYTOWN - A fire destroyed at least 500 homes in a poor district in Bangladesh's capital Dhaka. Officials say it took more than two hours to bring the blaze under control and it is unclear what caused the fire.
MORE AFGHAN PROTESTS AGAINST ANTI-ISLAM FILM - Protests against an anti-Islam film which ridicules the Prophet Muhammad continued in the Afghan city of Jalalabad. University students marched and chanted anti-American slogans, and they burned an effigy of President Barack Obama.
SYRIA - Fighting continues close to the Turkish border as rebels attack the Syrian army. Diplomats from more than 60 countries met in a suburb of the Dutch city of The Hague to discuss tightening economic sanctions against Syria's ruling regime.

HONG KONG JEWELRY FAIR - It's the 30th anniversary of the September Hong Kong Jewelry and Gem Fair, and organizers say the diamond display is the largest of its kind in the world. The Hong Kong fair is the largest in Asia, and attracts visitors from across the region wanting to buy ahead of the traditional present-giving season of Diwali, Christmas and Chinese New Year that runs from November to Spring.
DENNIS HOPPER EXHIBITION OPENS IN BERLIN - Dennis Hopper was the Easy Rider actor who came to symbolize counter-culture Hollywood. He is less well-known as a photographer, but an exhibit in Berlin is changing that. A collection of more than 400 recently discovered prints in which Dennis Hopper documented the U.S. arts scene of the mid-1960s, the civil rights movement and his celebrity friends.
