ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Albany Medical Center officials are urging people to take part in a nationwide study of the causes of cancer.

The American Cancer Society is trying to enroll 300,000 adults nationwide between now and December 2013 for a 20-year study that will explore the lifestyle, environmental, behavioral and genetic factors that cause or prevent cancer.

Albany Medical Center president James Barba on Tuesday encouraged the center's 7,200 employees to enroll in the cancer study. Barba and Albany Mayor Jerry Jennings called it an opportunity for all of Albany to play a role in helping prevent cancer.
