CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada health officials are confirming the state's second human case of West Nile virus this year.

The state Health Division on Wednesday said the case involves a Churchill County resident over the age of 50 who has the more serious, neuroinvasive form of the virus.

The first case was reported last week in Clark County.

West Nile is spread by mosquitoes. Health officials stress that the best prevention is to wear long sleeves and pants when mosquitoes are most active and to use insect repellent. They also advise people to remove standing water from around their homes that can attract mosquitoes.

According to the National Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 3,142 human cases of West Nile virus nationwide have been reported as of Tuesday, and 134 people have died.
