CHICAGO (AP) — Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. is selling his Washington house, in part, to help pay for health care costs.
A statement from Jackson spokesman Rick Bryant says that the congressman and his wife are "grappling with soaring healthcare costs and are selling their residence to help defray costs of their obligations."
Jackson has been on medical leave for months and is being treated for bipolar disorder. Part of his treatment included hospitalization for weeks at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.
Jackson put his townhouse on the market for $2.5 million. The Chicago Tribune reported Wednesday (http://trib.in/QmIySo) that Jackson's Victorian-style townhouse was put on the market Sept. 8.
The listing says it has four bedrooms, five fireplaces, a gourmet kitchen, a sun room and a rooftop deck with a Jacuzzi.
