CINCINNATI (AP) — Court officials for the counties that include Cincinnati, Columbus and Dayton are working to expand their use of electronic filing to save money and improve efficiency.
The Cincinnati Enquirer (http://cin.ci/S51aXD ) reports Hamilton County's courts have joined those in Franklin and Montgomery counties in requiring that many documents for civil cases be filed electronically. All three counties are considering expanding those requirements to criminal cases.
The presiding judge in Hamilton County says the plan to move toward a paperless system could save 3 million printed documents each year, amounting to $90,000 in paper savings.
The clerk says using electronic filing would save time for court employees, allowing them to complete some tasks with a few clicks on the computer instead of exchanging paperwork.
She says it also would save storage space.
