BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Federal officials are recognizing a school district in southwestern Idaho for its health and nutrition programs.
The Middleton district is the first in Idaho to have every one of its schools win an award through the U.S. Department of Agriculture's HealthierUS School Challenge. The program recognizes schools that improve student health through food, fitness and educational programs.
The state Department of Education says Middleton Middle School achieved the program's highest honor, a Gold Award of Distinction, while the four other schools in the district were awarded a Silver Award for their work creating healthier learning environments.
USDA officials recognized the district during a visit Tuesday.
