Knox County schools start annual flu vaccination

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Knox County schools are starting their annual flu vaccination program for students to receive the FluMist intranasal vaccine.

WATE-TV reports (http://bit.ly/SiYnGc ) that the program begins on Monday and will run through Oct. 12 at several schools in the county. Parents can pick up consent forms at the schools or online at the Knox County Health Department's website, as well as receive a detailed schedule of the school vaccination clinics.

This is the eighth year for the flu vaccination program in Knox County schools.

Due to decreased federal and state funds, the health department will be billing insurance for children who are covered under health insurance. For children who are not covered by insurance, the department is asking for donations to cover the cost of the vaccines.
