CINCINNATI (AP) — A federal appeals court panel has rejected a former Republican Ohio legislator's effort to get on the November ballot as an independent.
The Republican secretary of state earlier had opposed Greg Jolivette's (JAHL'-uh-vehts) effort to run as an independent for Ohio House District 51.
A panel of the 6th U.S. Court of Appeals in Cincinnati has ruled 2-1 against a request for an injunction on behalf of Jolivette. The ruling upheld a lower court opinion.
The rulings state Jolivette was ineligible to run as an independent because he was still affiliated with the Republican Party. The former Butler County commissioner and Hamilton mayor originally planned to run as a Republican, but there were flaws with his candidacy petitions.
A telephone request for comment was left Monday for Jolivette.
