KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Police in Kansas City are investigating a fatal shooting that took place in between the stadiums that are home to the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals as an attempted murder-suicide.

Officers were called to a parking area between Arrowhead Stadium and Kauffman Stadium around 3:30 p.m. Friday. Police said a woman was taken to a hospital with gunshot wounds, and a man died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The incident happened several hours before the scheduled start of the Royals' game against the Los Angeles Angels. It was played as scheduled.

The Royals issued a statement later Friday that said the team was "deeply saddened by the tragic events."
